about the topics. For example:

- What is the leading party in the USA?
- Name the parts of London and their remarkable sightseeings.
- How can you become a member of the House of Lords (i.e. to become a Lord)?
- Compare the political systems in the USA and in Britain.
Try to raise these questions on the lessons.
Beware! There might be some (or a lot of) mistakes
in the materials, so don't be angry with me, though I try to read them
through and to correct the obvious mistakes.
For those, who want to get an excellent mark and pass the
certificate test, I should also recommend to look
through some additional questions, which don't concern
the common topics but are usually discussed at the English lessons.
This certificate test, which is sometimes called "TOEFL", but it isn't in
reality, consists of several parts:
- Listening comprehension:
The students are given papers, containing questions to dialogs (or situations)
and the answers (multiple choice). The short dialogs themselves are played
from the tape recorder with short time pauses between neighboring
two ones, during which the answer should be selected. By the way,
it's a good idea to review the verbal idioms.
This part lasts for about 40 minutes.
- Reading comprehension:
The students are offered reading some random article, as a fact,
not connected with computer technologies, and then they have to express
the main idea (i.e. to retell) and/or express his own opinions about it.
The additional questions from the side of the teachers might follow,
so be ready.
You are given about 15 minutes for reading.
- Topic:
The students are offered to choose the card with topic (or situation,
or question). No time is given for preparation. The last time the
topics correspond to these additional questions.
