Minsk.

The contemporary Minsk is situated at the crossroads from the West to the East and from the North to the South. It has an excellent service of trains and buses. It occupies an ideal central position for visitors. It is considered to be one of the most attractive and important cities.

Minsk is full of parks and green spaces and is surrounded by a countryside of great nature beauty. Its parks and the Botanical Garden are real attractions of the city. The river Svisloch runs through the centre of the city dividing it into 2 parts. A large portion of the parkland is set aside for the public recreation.

One of the chief glories of Minsk is the Trinity Suburb, a delight of every visitor of taste. It is beautiful in all seasons of the year. Its narrow streets and small beautiful houses remind us of the past.

The centre of the capital has become Independence Square, framed by a variety of outstanding buildings of magnificent architecture.

The history of the capital has touched its street pattern. Some of the oldest streets are rather, but the main highways are wide and well kept.

The names of many streets commemorate men famous in literature, art and science, or those who brilliantly served their country.

Not far from the bridge there is Victory Square. It's the most beautiful square In the Belorussian Capital. The Eternal flame burns at the foot of the monument to honour those who died in the defence of their land against foreign invaders.

Opposite the Circus lies Yanka Kupala Park with a monumental statue of the poet in the centre.

Near at hand is the monumental building of the Philarmonia with extremely rare concert organ.

The magnificent architecture of the building of the Academy of Science can excite the visitors' interest.

There are many more attractions in Minsk, which would be pity to miss. Among them the Kolas literary Museum with numerous exhibits displaying the poets life.

We can't help mentioning Belorussian churches and cathedrals. All of them have become places of warship and really are worth visiting. One of the most graceful buildings is St. Alexander Nevski Church at the military cemetery.

So Minsk is a city in varied memories. It is indeed the city in which the past and the present exist side by side. Its long history dates back to at least the IIth century.
